About the project

We built a new website for the Institute of Plant Protection NAAS from an approved design. Text, images and documents were migrated from its previous website, while the structure and layout were rebuilt. The site now contains over 400 news items dating back to 2018, more than 460 documents and over 80 pages. Dedicated pages present departments, staff, scientific publications and patents. Laboratories have space for research, accreditation, galleries and files. Links to scientific documents were preserved so readers can still open them through publication references. Editors maintain Ukrainian and English content, updating menus and text without a developer. They can edit text on the page and use autosave and revision history. A translation button fills English fields for editorial review. Visitor enquiries reach the person responsible for the selected topic and remain in the panel. The site launched on the client’s domain on 30 September 2026. We continue to make updates requested by the client.

The client is the Institute of Plant Protection NAAS in Kyiv. The site serves readers of scientific publications, other visitors and staff who manage the institute’s content. Previously, the institute had an older website; its content was migrated, while the design and pages were rebuilt.

02

The task

The task was to build a new site from the approved design and migrate a large archive. News, documents and images had to remain available, including recent material added before launch. Scientific publications contained links to files on the old website. Those links had to keep working after the website changed.

Editors without technical training needed clear tools for managing two languages. The site had to run on the client’s existing hosting. One system needed to serve two separate products: the institute website and the PROGRESS page. Their design, menus, settings and editor permissions had to remain separate.

What we built

Migrated the archive

We migrated over 400 news items dating back to 2018, more than 460 documents and over 80 pages. Text, images and files came from the old website; the design was rebuilt. Fresh news was added before launch to bring the archive up to date. Visitors can read earlier material on the new website.

Migrated the archive

We migrated over 400 news items dating back to 2018, more than 460 documents and over 80 pages. Text, images and files came from the old website; the design was rebuilt. Fresh news was added before launch to bring the archive up to date. Visitors can read earlier material on the new website.

Organised the institute content

We prepared pages for 13 departments and 60 staff profiles. Laboratory pages contain research, accreditation, galleries and documents. The research task register for 2026–2030 is available in both languages. Visitors can see each department’s work and related resources.

Preserved scientific links

We preserved old file addresses referenced by the institute’s scientific publications. They redirect readers to each document’s new location. A reader following a publication link can open the required file. There is no need to search for the document again after the migration.

Gave editors control

The panel lets editors change text, menus, the header and footer. It also includes the fields search engines read: page title and description. Labels, hints and a built-in guide explain what to enter. Editors of the two products have separate permissions and can switch panels after one sign-in.

Editing on the page

Editors enable editing mode and change text where it appears on the page. This makes it clear which block they are updating. Autosave preserves edits, while revision history keeps earlier text versions. Editors can review how the material changed.

Translation from the panel

A manager writes a news item in Ukrainian, presses Translate and receives populated English fields. Formatting is preserved and links stay unchanged; the editor checks the text before publication. The button is available on 24 screens across both panels, with a warning for empty translations. English text for migrated material was filled in bulk after previewing the list.

Automatic news monitoring

The system reads over 10 specialist sources daily and selects material across 12 topics, giving priority to scientific sources. Updates are published in a separate category once or twice a week, with up to 3 news items and 5 announcements. An editor can review or remove material. Visitors can find industry updates alongside institute news.

Enquiries by topic

Visitors choose an enquiry topic in the form. The message reaches the person responsible, and the submission remains in the panel marked as new. Staff can see it in the list while working with other sections. The site also has pages for citizen enquiries and the trust box.

Publications and documents

Scientific publications and public documents are grouped in their respective sections. Selecting a publication cover opens its file in the embedded viewer. Readers can examine the document on the website. Journal covers also appear in the large menu to help visitors recognise publications.

Design and security

The header uses the client’s panorama, green brand colour and botanical illustrations that draw themselves as visitors scroll. Uploaded images are compressed automatically, so editors do not need to prepare smaller copies. Text entered by editors is sanitised before display, and uploaded files cannot execute. Form submission frequency is limited to protect against repeated requests.

How we worked

1

Approved the design

Work began in late May 2026. The new website design was agreed with the client.

2

Built the site and panel

We built the pages and content tools. The two products received separate designs and panels.

3

Migrated resources

Text, images and documents were migrated from the old site. Recent news was added before launch.

4

Reviewed with the client

The client reviewed pages at a test address. They sent changes in documents, which we applied to the site.

5

Prepared and launched

A full backup of the old site was made before switching. The new site opened on the client’s domain and hosting on 30 September 2026.

6

Continue changes after launch

Since launch, we have continued to make updates requested by the client and help editors add new content.

Outcome

The institute received a new website with its archive, department pages and access to scientific files through old links. Ukrainian and English versions contain the migrated material. The site launched on the client’s domain and hosting on 30 September 2026.

Staff manage content and enquiries through the panel, can edit text on the page and review translations before publishing. We continue to make updates requested by the client after launch. The separate PROGRESS page operates alongside it with its own design and editor permissions.

Editors write in Ukrainian and press Translate to populate English fields automatically. For example, a manager creates a news item and receives its English text after pressing the button. Formatting is preserved and links remain unchanged. Before publication, editors check and amend the translation; empty fields have a warning.
